Hello all! It's Me Made May time again!
What is Me Made May? It is a month-long celebration of the handmade, self-stitched, re-fashioned items we have in our wardrobes, and is a chance to show them off to the world with pride! This event was created by the excellent Zoe of "So Zo... What do you know?" fame. To find out more, and to join in yourself, head on over here for all the info.
I participated last year and the year before and I'm looking forward to being part of it again this year.
Like last year's pledge, I will be using MMMay'14 as an opportunity to focus on making things - challenging myself to get back in the habit of making regularly. This year I'm changing things slightly by focusing on leather.
Here is a rather blurry shot of my leather stash, although not all of it - I have a roll of vegtan leather which I have used for making belts, as well as bag of big-enough-to-do-something-with-so-I-probably-shouldn't-throw-them-away scraps in all sorts of colours.
I have had some of these skins for years and often feel hesitant to cut into them for fear of making something inferior that doesn't do the leather justice. I realise I'm also hesitant to go big when using my leathers, preferring smaller projects so that I'm 'not using up too much leather'. But why?! That's what it's there for! So, for this year's MMMay challenge, I am going to focus on making a range of items using my leather stash.
I, Emily Botterman of The Botterman Empire, endeavour to make at least one leather accessory item each week of May, working from my leather stash.
At the moment I don't know exactly what I'll be making during May, although I do have a couple of ideas of things I've been meaning to make for ages, so I'll use MMMay as the kick I need to finally make them! Other than that I'll be using the stash itself as inspiration.
Are you MMMay-ing this year?
